Palos Hospital Earns 2019 Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award

Palos Hospital recognized with annual award for exceptional and innovative performance

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL, JULY 29, 2019 – Palos Hospital’s Emergency Department has been selected as a recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s (ENA) 2019 Lantern Award for demonstrating exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.

The Lantern Award showcases the emergency department’s accomplishments in incorporating evidence-based practices and innovation into emergency care. As part of the application process, EDs are encouraged to share stories that highlight their commitment to care of patients, as well as the well-being of the nursing staff. The award serves as a visible symbol of the hospital’s commitment to quality, safety and a healthy work environment. Among the many factors contributing to the achievement of the ENA’s 2019 Lantern Award, is the nursing philosophy of Palos Hospital’s Emergency Department. This philosophy is rooted in providing extraordinary, compassionate, holistic care with an emphasis on dignity and respect. Another factor is the Emergency Department (ED) staff nurses’ participation in the Unit-Based Practice Committee (UBPC) on all levels, empowering the clinical staff resulting in changes that enhance patient care and improve employee satisfaction.

“We are extremely proud of our Emergency Department for garnering this prestigious recognition,” says Terrence Moisan, M.D., President and CEO of Palos Health. “This honor acknowledges the tremendous care our Emergency Department delivers to patients and their loved ones.”
